Mariah Reeves, 12, of Hanover Park counts gift card amounts donated to Nathan Saavedra, 3, of Carpentersville and his family Friday, Dec. 16. The Reeves and Saavedra families met for the first time and had dinner together before counting the donations Mariah gathered, which is a part of her bat mitzvah project. They counted more than $2,000 in cash, check and gift card donations. Nathan is in need of a second kidney transplant.
