Someone possibly could wind up with a poke loaded with the shiny, colored stuff.

An Alaskan miner is offering an ounce of gold for information leading to the conviction for someone who shot and abandoned a bull moose with a 45-inch antler spread near Ferry in early September.

In addition to the gold, valued at $1,600, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Safeguard program is offering a minimum reward of $500 in the case.

Law-abiding hunters:Pierre Mondott and Anthony Piazza were looking for one of Southern Arizona's prized Coues whitetails as they hunted together near the border town of Sasabe over the weekend.Instead they stumbled upon a stash of bundled marijuana #8212; 126 pounds of it. The two contacted members of the National Guard, who were stationed nearby.Fishing update:I personally don't want to take any chances just yet on some area waterway locations with the thin ice. But there always are those who seem to be extra hungry for thrills and panfish.I spoke with fishing pal John P., who reports 8-9 inches of the hard stuff on many lakes around Chetek, Wis.
