Robber flees Naperville hotel with cash

A robber who displayed a semiautomatic handgun stole an unknown amount of cash early Saturday morning from a Naperville hotel, authorities said.

About 1:45 a.m., a man in his mid 20s wearing a dark coat, dark sunglasses and a knit cap showed a gun at the check-in counter of the Days Inn Hotel in the 1300 block of East Ogden Avenue and demanded cash, said Naperville police Sgt. Lou Cammiso.

After receiving money, the man, described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds with a scruffy beard, left on foot heading south through the hotel’s parking lot, Cammiso said.

Naperville and Lisle police set up a perimeter around the hotel and used a police dog to try to track the suspect’s scent to his home, getaway car or wherever he fled after the robbery.

“I’m not aware that dog track was successful at all,” Cammiso said.

Naperville police continue searching for the suspect and detectives are investigating whether the robbery may be tied to other recent stickups at West suburban sandwich shops, pizza places or banks.

“I don’t know that we’ve developed any link between those,” he said. “But it’s always possible.”
