In the spirit of giving, the Elite Soccer parent council, in coordination with the Elite Soccer youth leaders and the Arlington Heights Fire Department, organized its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to support needy families in Wheeling Township.

Soccer teams were asked to put together Thanksgiving baskets and to include enough items to feed a family a full Thanksgiving meal. A total of 88 baskets were collected on Nov. 6, at the Arlington Heights Fire Academy. Additional bags with food and toiletries, along with $1,000 worth of grocery store gift cards, were also collected. Parent volunteers delivered all the items to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry, 1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, on Nov. 7.

“We thought this was a great opportunity for our kids to learn the importance of giving back to the community, while creating a sense of team spirit,” said Colleen Schoessling, lead organizer and member of the Elite Soccer parent council.
