State, feds come together for new Fermilab research center

Fermilab broke ground Friday morning on the Illinois Accelerator Research Center. It will be dedicated to furthering the relationship between basic science and industry, particularly in developing "turn-key" uses of accelerators for industrial, commercial, medical and defense applications. The state is providing $20 million for design and construction.
