College basketball previews: DePaul, Loyola, Illini

DePaul (4-3) at Loyola (1-6)

When: 7 p.m. Wednesday at Joe Gentile Arena

The skinny: DePaul has gotten off to slow starts while dropping two in a row against Mississippi and Milwaukee. Sophomore Cleveland Melvin scored 27 points in the most recent loss. Loyola’s lone victory came over Fordham in its only home game of the season. The Blue Demons have won 10 in a row in the series.

St. Bonaventure (3-3) at Illinois (8-0)

When: 8 p.m. Wednesday at Assembly Hall

TV: ESPN2

The skinny: Illini center Meyers Leonard was named Big Ten player of the week after hitting 9 of 11 shots for 21 points to pace an 82-75 upset of No. 19 Gonzaga on Saturday. Illinois landed in the rankings this week at No. 24 in AP. Bradley transfer Sam Maniscalco is averaging 12.9 points per game and hitting 53.5 percent of his field goal attempts. St. Bonaventure is led by 6-9 senior Andrew Nicholson with 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds.
