Outdoors notes: fishing update

Here we are once again, between the devil and the deep blue sea, so to speak. And it all has to do with an unusual weather pattern.

The goofy weather conditions has area anglers scratching their heads. Wintry conditions have kept many anglers indoors while a few brave ones have been trying to locate walleyes in open water. But it appears a decent crappie movement has tripped a trigger for some of the faithful.

Fox Chain: Crappie action has arrived on Bluff Lake with larger fish going after minnows. Muskie activity could give some fishermen some surprises on Channel Lake while walleyes are grabbing large minnows on the upper river.

Lake Michigan: Chalk it up to ocean-like conditions recently, with waves tall enough to tempt California surfers to hop on a plane. Fishing has shut down for the time being.
