Euclid School in Mount Prospect celebrated its excitement for reading on Oct. 6, during a literacy event arranged through First Book and Tata Steel.
Tata Steel, an international company located in Schaumburg, has a commitment to encouraging educational access and success. On Oct. 6 they partnered with First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides new books to children.
Euclid School in Mount Prospect was chosen to participate in this book distribution/donation event. Chris McCarthy, president of Tata Steel International — Americas, kicked off the event. About 20 Tata employees read books with small groups of Euclid second graders.
“As teachers of young children we found it very gratifying to watch the wonderful interactions of the Tata volunteers with our students,” said June Kerstein, second grade Euclid teacher.
After the hourlong event, each child left with a goody bag that included two gift books.
Euclid Principal Laura Gammons said she believed the event was meaningful to both the children and the Tata volunteers.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
