Laughs live on in Laurel & Hardy DVD set

“Laurel & Hardy: The Essential Collection”

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy made up one of the greatest comedy teams of all time. Fans of the duo can now enjoy 58 of their talking shorts and feature films that were produced by Hal Roach from 1929 through 1940. The 10-disc set comes in a beautiful package, and all the material has been transferred in high definition. You also get a film guide, so that each one has a story to tell. Some of the titles include: “The Music Box,” “Another Fine Mess,” “Hog Wild,” “Way Out West,” “Sons of the Desert,” “Block-Heads” and many more. There are loads of special features as well: a tribute, trailers, interviews with famous comedians and a virtual location map that allows viewers to take an interactive tour of the places in and around Los Angeles where Laurel and Hardy filmed.

“Barney Miller: the Complete Series”

“Barney Miller” was a hit television series that ran on ABC from 1974 to 1982. The sitcom featured a terrific ensemble cast that was built around Captain Barney Miller (Hal Linden) and the detectives in a New York City police station. The writing each week carried the show, along with the colorful characters. The DVD set includes all eight seasons on 25 discs, a 32-page book, new interviews, an original un-aired pilot, the first season of the spinoff “Fish” and more.

“The Bridge School Concerts 25th Anniversary Edition”

The Bridge School is a not-for-profit, innovative organization educating children with severe speech and physical impairments. In 1986, Neil Young and his wife began a yearly event with many artists to raise funds for the school. The three-disc DVD set includes not only great performances but also a documentary on the school along with student and artist interviews. Some of the artists who perform on the discs are Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, The Who, Dave Matthews, Bonnie Raitt, David Bowie and others.
