North Aurora man shot to death in Chicago

A 25-year-old North Aurora man was shot and killed late Sunday night in Chicago, authorities said.

Police responded to a report of a person shot at 11:06 p.m. on the 7400 block of South Western Avenue in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood. Officers found the victim, Armando Aguirre, unresponsive on the sidewalk with a bullet wound in his back, said Chicago Police spokesman Officer John Mirabelli.

Aguirre, of the 600 block of Graham Road, was transported in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

An autopsy performed Monday showed that Aguirre died of a gunshot wound to the back and that his death was a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Police had not made any arrests in the case as of late Monday afternoon. “It’s still an ongoing investigation,” Mirabelli said.
