White’s request for Bayh investigation rejected

INDIANAPOLIS — A prosecutor has turned down embattled Republican Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White’s request for an independent investigation of his vote fraud allegations against former Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh.

Democratic Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says White provided no evidence to conclude that Bayh and his wife intended to give up their Indianapolis residence despite living in Washington after Bayh’s Senate term ended this year.

White asked last week for a special prosecutor to consider whether the Bayhs voted fraudulently in Indiana’s May Democratic primary. White faces criminal charges including voter fraud in Hamilton County for voting from his ex-wife’s Fishers address during the 2010 primary.

White’s attorney says White was pointing out that the charges against him are politically motivated when he and Bayh had done the same thing.
