Siblings charged after Glen Ellyn burglaries

A brother and sister have been charged in connection with a string of burglaries to businesses along Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn.

Glen Ellyn police announced Wednesday that Kenneth W. Silva, 45, was charged with burglary and possession of stolen property, and Renee M. Silva, 43, was charged with possession of stolen property. Both live on the 15500 block of Rose Drive in South Holland.

Authorities said the pair stole cash and electronics from two salons and a restaurant on Monday. An officer pulled over their car during a traffic stop on Geneva Road, at which time police were also receiving reports that front doors and windows had been smashed at the three businesses.

During the traffic stop, the officer found more than $1,700 in cash in Kenneth Silva’s pockets, authorities said. Silva was arrested on charges of not having a valid driver’s license. The officer found additional evidence inside the car that linked Silva to the businesses, police said.

Glen Ellyn police said the Silvas are suspected in similar incidents in neighboring communities.

They were being held at the DuPage County jail.
