Hispanic leaders want seat on health review board

Some members of Illinois' Hispanic community say it's time they have a seat on the state board that approves health facilities and services.

Juan Rangel is CEO of the United Neighborhood Organization. He says he and other Latino leaders will attend Wednesday's meeting of the Health Facilities and Services Review Board to share their concerns.

He says they want at least one Hispanic person appointed to the board. And he says advocates also will urge lawmakers to support a proposal to adjust the board's formula that determines a community's health care needs to better reflect Hispanic communities.

UNO says Hispanics in Illinois have fewer health care choices even though they're disproportionately affected by diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

Wednesday's meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in Bolingbrook.
