Man charged with DUI in Naperville motorcyclist's death

After his release from the hospital Sunday night, a Shorewood man was charged with driving under the influence in a weekend crash that killed a Naperville motorcyclist, according to authorities.

David C. Dietrich, 32, was driving an uninsured 2005 Ford truck on Route 59 in Plainfield late Saturday afternoon when police said he lost control and crossed the center median causing the truck to rollover.

The truck struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Naperville resident George A. Weikum, 58, killing him, according to police.

Dietrich was charged with aggravated DUI resulting in a death, DUI, improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions and operating an uninsured vehicle, said Plainfield police Sgt. Mike Fisher.

Weikum was traveling in the northbound lanes of Route 59 when he was struck at 4:28 p.m. near Joseph Street, police said.

Weikum, who was the owner of G & C Landscape and a former University of Montana Grizzlies football player, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dietrich, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, is being held at the Will County jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is due in court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
