Aurora siblings charged with neglecting elderly mother

Three Aurora siblings face charges of neglecting their 77-year-old mother so severely that part of her right leg developed gangrene and had to be amputated.

The siblings each face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if they are convicted of the felony: one count each of criminal neglect of an elderly person.

Connie A. Roberson, 51, Kevin H. Roberson, 42, and Alan K. Roberson, whose age was not released by the Kane County state's attorney's office, all resided on the 1100 block of Randall Road in Aurora with their mother.

According to the charges filed Tuesday against Connie Roberson and Thursday against Kevin Roberson and Alan Roberson, they failed to provide care, medical treatment and nourishment to their mother between June 18 and Oct. 2.

Assistant State's Attorney Debra Bree presented photos of the victim's injures during a bond hearing, showing the mother had gangrene that turned her right leg and calf black, and a 3-inch deep, open wound on her tailbone that was black, red and purple. The leg has been amputated.

Bree told a judge the gangrene and tailbone wound were direct results of the siblings' neglect of their mother, who remains hospitalized.

The siblings all remain in Kane County jail and each would have to post $25,000 to be released before his or her next court date.

Connie Roberson is due in court Oct. 25, while Kevin Roberson and Alan Roberson are due in court Oct. 18.

If any of the siblings post bail, they have been ordered not to have any contact with their mother.

Aurora police are continuing to investigate the case and ask anyone with information to call (630) 256-5500.
