Ind. gets grant to develop affordable homes ideas

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration is among agencies in six states that will each get $330,000 federal grants that should result in more housing options for people with disabilities.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced the grants Thursday under which state Medicaid agencies will work with state housing agencies to find ways to create permanent and affordable rental housing for people with disabilities who receive Medicaid services.

It’s part of a joint effort by the U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services and House and Urban Development to increase the availability of affordable and accessible housing for people with disabilities who receive Medicaid services that help them live in community settings.

Other states getting the grants are Maryland, Mississippi, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin.
