Oldest Glen Ellyn church celebrates 150 years

Glen Ellyn’s oldest church will open its 150th anniversary celebration with a barbecue and ice cream social on Sunday, Oct. 2. Members and friends of the First Congregational Church, 535 Forest Ave., will gather at Lake Ellyn from 4 to 6 p.m.

The church is planning other special events between now and the official anniversary celebration and worship service on April 29, 2012. One will be the planting of 300 flower bulbs — 150 in honor of years past and 150 in anticipation of the next 150 years.
