Aurora man guilty of kidnapping, attempted murder

An Aurora man faces 45 years in prison after being convicted of kidnapping a woman last fall and forcing her to eat dog feces while being held at gunpoint.

A Kane County jury Friday convicted Jean Marc Faison, 25, of the 200 block of Trask Street, of attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint and as host of other charges.

Authorities charged Faison and another woman, Monserrat Arreola, 24, of the 600 block of Montrose Drive, Romeoville, with beating and terrorizing a woman at her Aurora home Nov. 20, 2010.

The pair also were among 20 arrested earlier that month in Naperville in a prostitution crackdown.

The kidnapped woman, who prosecutors say was punched, cut and beaten by Arreola while being held at gunpoint by Faison, eventually escaped later that day when Faison was distracted.

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Jonathan McKay said her testimony was key to securing Faison’s conviction.

“All of the evidence supported what she was saying, from the scientific evidence to physical evidence and testimony of other witnesses and even the defendant’s own actions and words,” McKay said. “She still doesn’t know why he did this.”

Faison is due to be sentenced by Judge Karen Simpson Dec. 29.

He faces a minimum of 21 years and maximum of 45 years on the attempted murder charges; authorities also are determining if Faison is eligible to serve other sentences consecutively from the 16 other charges he was convicted of Friday.

Arreola is due in court Oct. 12.
