Crash in Rosemont injures Chicago man

A 31-year-old Chicago man remains in serious condition after his Ford Explorer became trapped beneath a semitrailer that apparently made an improper turn in Rosemont Thursday morning, police said.

John Huffaker was extricated from his trapped vehicle after the initial collision at approximately 7:50 a.m. and transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The driver of the truck, 32-year-old Jimmie Hodges of Riverdale, was uninjured. He was charged with failure to yield turning left, according to Rosemont police.

The collision between the two vehicles occurred at the Lee Street exit ramp from the westbound Jane Addams Memorial Tollway.

Investigators determined that the two vehicles collided as the truck Hodges was driving attempted to make a left turn from the Lee Street exit ramp onto southbound Lee Street, police said.

The street was closed to through traffic for five hours while the crash was being investigated, police said.
