Couple pleads guilty to selling cocaine to uncover cops

A Beach Park couple admitted Tuesday they sold cocaine twice to undercover police officers who came to their home.

Alan Solganick, 52, was sentenced to three years in prison and Sherry Solganick, 58, was placed on probation for 30 months after both pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Demartini said the couple were selling drugs from their home on the 38000 block of North Sheridan Road.

Agents of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group bought nearly 3 grams of cocaine from the couple for $200 on Jan. 27, Demartini said, and another 10 grams for $500 on Feb. 4.

On Feb. 14, police served a search warrant on their residence and recovered about 3½ ounces of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and packaging material.

Police also seized $20,416 in cash, which the couple agreed to surrender to the government as part of their plea negotiation.

Court records show Alan Solganick successfully completed a period of probation after a 2004 felony drug conviction.

Associate Judge George Bridges agreed to allow Alan Solganick to remain free until Oct. 11 but warned he could be charged with escape if he does not return to court that day to begin serving his prison term.

Bridges also ordered Sherry Solganick to spend six months on electronic home monitoring and to perform 100 hours of public service while on probation. Demartini said the couple could have faced up to 30 years in prison if convicted after a trial.
