14 people injured when bus flips in Hanover Park

Thirteen people on a shuttle bus were hospitalized after the 18-seat bus flipped on its roof in Hanover Park during a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, according to fire department officials.

The driver of the white sedan that struck the side of the shuttle bus was also seriously injured, possibly critically, and hospitalized after the crash on County Farm Road just south of Route 20.

Two of the victims on the bus suffered serious injuries but none appeared to be life-threatening, said Hanover Park Fire Department Batallion Chief Jeannine Ames. She said the other 11 on the bus who were taken to area hospitals were considered “walking wounded” and not seriously injured.

Three people on the bus suffered minor injuries but were treated at the scene, Ames said.

The male driver of the sedan was alone in his vehicle headed south on County Farm Road when he lost control and struck the side of the shuttle bus, which was headed north, Ames said.

The shuttle was knocked into curb, causing it to roll over and come to a halt upside down on the roadway about 2:30 p.m., officials said.

The car that struck the shuttle bus ended up in a small embankment, according to fire officials.

Fire departments from Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Roselle and Streamwood sent ambulances to the scene and took patients to five separate hospitals.

County Farm Road was shut down to allow ambulances to quickly reach the crash scene, Ames said.

Officials did not know where the bus was headed but said the victims were not schoolchildren.
