Music notes: Tossers come to Palatine

Celtic punks

The Tossers emerged roughly 15 years ago from Irish neighborhoods on the South Side, and they've built a loyal following with their mix of traditional Celtic music (mandolin, fiddle, tin whistle) and full-throttle punk energy (guitar, bass, drums). Their music has been eclipsed in notoriety only by their ferocious live shows. The band makes a stop in the suburbs this weekend. The Tossers perform with openers Red Rebel Country at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine. $7. Go to durtynellies.com.

Record release party

Blane Fonda, an indie dance-rock band that hails from the Northwest suburbs, will celebrate the release of its debut album, “Foolish Croon” with a show at Chicago's Subterranean this weekend. Blane Fonda, which features members of the defunct band The Sapiens, specializes in melodic, driving rock with a synth edge. Here's a chance to support some local boys doing good. Blane Fonda performs on a bill that includes Carbon Tigers, Stepdad and The Noise FM at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave., Chicago. $10. Go to subt.net.

‘Chain' reissues

Influential noise-pop band The Jesus and Mary Chain, a fixture in the underground/alternative scene of the 1980s and 1990s, is reissuing its six studio records in lavish deluxe editions this fall, starting with the band's classic 1985 debut “Psychocandy” on Tuesday. The band emerged from Scotland in the mid-1980s with a sound that combined elements of The Velvet Underground, The Stooges and classic '60s pop groups. Each reissue will include two CDs and one DVD, which together contain a remastered version of the original album, b-sides, demos, live tracks, music videos, television appearances and more. The sets also will include extensive liner notes. For more information, go to the Demon Music Groub website at demonmusicgroup.co.uk.
