Stream clean-up

Service groups, youth groups, and local residents are asked to help clean up Kellogg Creek from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Beulah Park playground at Kedron and Ezekiel in Zion. The cleanup will focus on the milelong stretch running from Gabriel Avenue through Beulah Park, and ending at Garnett Avenue. Teams will be dispersed along the stream corridor and trail to help remove garbage, woody debris and invasive plants. This project is part of a joint effort by the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC), Zion Park District and Alliance for the Great Lakes to improve the water quality in Kellogg Creek, which is one of the few creeks in the area that flows directly into Lake Michigan. Participants should dress and prepare for work in woody and muddy conditions. Interested volunteers should contact Andrea Cline at (847) 377-7710 or acline@lakecountyil.gov.
