Pedestrians must show care, too

I am both gladdened and sad concerning the article on the front page of the Sept. 15 Daily Herald about pedestrians in crosswalks. I am and have been at various times both a pedestrian and a driver. The article gladdens me as it is necessary to constantly remind drivers that pedestrians always have the right-of-way when in a crosswalk. However, I am saddened because there seems to be no attempt to ever educate pedestrians that they do not have the right of way except when in a crosswalk. As a driver, I have seen pedestrians step off the curb at many places expecting all drivers to immediately stop for them regardless of the traffic implications. I believe the law calls this jay walking. I hope, in the future, the Daily Herald will be more equal in its reporting position.
