Harvest means farm equipment on Illinois roads

DEKALB — Warnings are going out to motorists across Illinois as harvest season begins and farm equipment is expected to be on the roadways.

The Daily Chronicle reportsthat this is National Farm Safety and Health Week. DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott says his county has two or three accidents a year that involve farm equipment on roadways. He says they're usually during planting and harvest seasons.

Police advise motorists to avoid passing farmers on bridges and overpasses and approach farm vehicles slowly. Drivers also should keep a safe distance from farm equipment and only pass if there is enough room.

Police say farmers should make sure their lights work correctly and they have a slow-moving vehicle sign on tractors.
