Fire rips through Grayslake home

A Grayslake home was nearly destroyed by fire during a late Wednesday morning blaze that started while the residents were out of town, according to fire officials.

A neighbor spotted the rear of the home on fire at about 11:35 a.m. and by the time firefighters arrived the house, on the 200 block of Harvey Street, was engulfed in flames, officials said.

Fire officials quickly called in six neighboring departments to help fight the blaze, which took nearly an hour to bring under control, said Grayslake Fire Department Batallion Chief Joris Lillge.

“If it’s not a complete loss, a significant amount is going to have to rebuilt,” Lillge said.

Fire officials estimated the damage to the single story home at about $200,000.

No one was injured during the fire, but the home was deemed uninhabitable.

Crews from Round Lake, Lake Villa, Wauconda, Libertyville, Mundelein and Waukegan assisted at the scene.
