Public invited to Long Grove fire training

Long Grove residents and neighbors are invited the watch the village’s fire department in action Saturday as they burn down a dilapidated home as part of a valuable training activity.

Officials will set the home, located at 1889 Checker Road, on fire at 11 a.m. as part of an exercise to give firefighters an opportunity to practice extinguishing a large blaze in a realistic setting.

The home is owned by Orren Pickell Designers & Builders, which offered the residence to the department for the trianing effort. The structure had been slated for demolition.

Refreshments will be severed and firefighters will be on-hand to answer any questions about the process. A rain day has been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 18.
