Train exhibit on track at DuPage Children’s Museum

From the Polar Express to Thomas the Tank Engine, trains seem to run on tracks right into the hearts and imaginations of kids.

Now youngsters age 10 and younger can explore their fascination in a new exhibit that opened Monday at the DuPage Children’s Museum, 301 N. Washington St. in Naperville. Located on the museum’s second floor, the exhibit will remain up at least a year, said Dana Peters, the museum’s assistant marketing manager.

“It is a popular subject with kids. In addition, we have train tracks that run right past our window,” she said.

Children can climb into three almost-life-size cars, watch two model trains running on their tracks, read a Metra schedule, purchase their ride at the ticket booth, do I Spy activities, see train art and do some themselves, and climb a control tower to see the exhibit from above.

All this and they’ll — shhh, don’t blow the whistle — learn about transportation, math, science and art without even knowing it.

The exhibit is included in regular museum admission and will have special activities associated with it throughout the year. For details, contact (630) 637-8000 or dupagechildrensmuseum.org.
