University of Illinois law school data questioned

URBANA, Ill. — University of Illinois’ College of Law admissions dean Paul Pless has been placed on leave and an investigation into whether the school inflated test scores and grades in the profile of this fall’s incoming class is under way.

According to the university, the inaccurate data about the grades and test scores was posted on its website, but has been removed.

In a Monday email, President Michael Hogan said a “ tone of integrity and transparency is apparent across all of our campuses, `’ adding the university takes “questionable actions seriously.”

Pless, a U of I law school graduate and dean for the past eight years, couldn’t be reached for comment.

University spokesman Thomas Hardy says officials haven’t determined if the information was inflated intentionally.
