Arlington Hts. businesses make reading fun

Thank you to the Arlington Heights business community for supporting creative ways to connect people who love books:

Ÿ Tuscan Market Wine Shop’s Book Club partnered with Arlington Theater for a special event to pair the blockbuster movie, “The Help,” with a book discussion and snacks. What a valuable evening they created — for girlfriends, moms and daughters, neighbors to run into their dentist, Realtor or kids’ teachers — and share thoughts about the movie’s depiction of the 1960s in Jackson, Miss., and civil rights. We gathered, talked and learned — all good outcomes!

Ÿ Peggy Kinnane’s Irish Pub hosted the recent “Books & Brews” evenings for readers to gather and talk mysteries and thrillers they enjoyed reading.

Ÿ Mariano’s Fresh Market hosting “Tales for Tots” to offer preschoolers a fun story and snack in the store’s cafe during a grocery shopping trip with their parents or caretakers.

As we all adjust to the “new normal” in our economy, it’s encouraging to see our businesses experiment with new ways to recruit customers and focus on cultural experiences, like “book-to-movie” discussions and pairing books with enjoying food.

Thanks to all who contribute to improving our quality of life by working together as good neighbors.
