Mundelein family displaced by fire

A Mundelein family has been displaced after a second story bedroom in their home caught fire Saturday, fire officials said.

The home, on the 300 block of South Prairie Avenue, is no longer inhabitable in the aftermath of the blaze, Mundelein Fire Lt. Bill Lark said.

The homeowners called in the fire at 3:11 p.m. and firefighters were able to keep it contained. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Lark.

Lark estimates the house sustained between $20,000 and $30,000 in damage.

Mundelein firefighters were also called to the scene of a fire on the 500 block of Bonniebrook Avenue after a recycling bin outside of a detached garage caught fire.

A passer-by called the fire in, Lark said.

The cause of that fire is also unknown and under investigation at this time.

Lark estimates damage at $4,000.
