Aurora motorcycle rider, passenger, injured in Naperville crash

Two Aurora residents remained hospitalized Thursday, a day after their motorcycle was struck by an oncoming car in Naperville.

The motorcycle driver, Michael Dunker, 60, was listed in critical condition Thursday at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

His passenger, Corrine Smith, 60, was being treated at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

No citations were issued as of late Thursday, Naperville Sgt. Gregg Bell said, but the investigation is continuing.

Emergency crews responded at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Warrenville and Herrick roads following reports of an accident involving multiple cars and a motorcycle, Bell said.

Responding officers found a badly damaged 2000 Volvo S80 in the intersection, a 2004 Honda Accord and a 2005 Harley Davidson Road Glide off the road, and a 2008 Acura MDX in the street just south of the intersection.

The automobile drivers were unharmed but the motorcycle driver and his passenger were transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville before being taken to the other facilities.

Police said the Honda, driven by 28-year-old Revanth Vema of Naperville, was heading west on Warrenville Road approaching Herrick when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck the Volvo.

The Honda continued west and then struck the Harley in the curb lane of eastbound Warrenville Road, knocking both riders off the motorcycle.

The Acura was struck by a tire that was dislodged from the 2000 Volvo.

Warrenville and Herrick roads were closed for nearly six hours at the accident site but reopened early Thursday morning.
