Will proposed Metra Milwaukee Line changes affect your ride?

If you're a regular rider on Metra's Milwaukee North or Milwaukee West lines, the agency wants your opinion on proposed schedule tweaks.

Chronic delays are causing Metra to consider revising train times on lines it controls.

“We want to more accurately reflect the times trains actually depart,” Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said.

In most cases, the changes represent one to four minutes difference, and certain trains will not be affected.

However, Metra would move up departure times by 10 minutes in the case of an outbound Milwaukee North train currently leaving Union Station at 2:35 p.m. and an inbound Milwaukee North train now departing from Fox Lake at 7:25 p.m.

For a detailed look at the revisions, visit the website metrarail.com. To comment, use the website, email onthebilevel@metrarr.com or call (312) 322-6777 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Suggestions and comments will be accepted until Sept. 23.

“Before putting this into effect we want to see how people will be impacted,” Pardonnet said, adding that officials will be interested to see what schedule changes elicit the most responses from riders.

The delays arise from a variety of causes, such as the late arrival of equipment or single tracks causing conflicts with Metra or freight trains.

Schedule tweaks will also affect the SouthWest Service and Heritage Corridor lines. All four lines are owned and operated by Metra, which contracts with railroads on its other routes.

The Milwaukee North Line runs from Fox Lake to Chicago with stops including Grayslake, Libertyville and Deerfield. The Milwaukee West Line runs from Elgin to Chicago with stops including Hanover Park, Schaumburg and Bensenville.
