Crone: 'for Neville' e-mail meant Taylor case had to be settled

Tom Crone, former lawyer for the News of the World, said an e-mail suggesting more than one reporter at the News of the World had been involved in phone- hacking had been the main reason for the company's 2008 decision to settle a lawsuit from Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association.

“It was a piece of evidence that meant we had to settle the Gordon Taylor case,” Crone told Parliament's culture committee in London today. He said he was “certain” he had discussed it with James Murdoch. Former News of the World editor Colin Myler, giving evidence alongside Crone, said he was “as certain as I can be” that the three discussed it.
