Northern Indiana plans for 500 motorcyclists on Sept. 11

GOSHEN, Ind. — More than 500 motorcycle riders are expected to escort a piece of beam from the World Trade Center through northern Indiana on Sept. 11 to mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

The Goshen News reports (http://bit.ly/nsStl2 ) the motorcyclists will ride through Wakarusa, Nappanee, Goshen, Middlebury, Bristol and Elkhart. Organizer Mary Anne Ballard says a piece of beam from the World Trade Center wreckage will be escorted during the ride on an antique fire truck.

The beam is the property of the Elkhart firefighter union 338.

The Osolo Township Fire Department also received a World Trade Center beam. The department’s members will dedicate its memorial for victims of the attack at their station on Sept. 11.
