Wis. special election set to replace assemblywoman

MADISON, Wis. — Just when you thought elections were finally over in Wisconsin, a new one is just two months away.

Gov. Scott Walker has set Nov. 8 as the date for a special election in the 95th Assembly district. The election is to replace Jennifer Shilling in the Wisconsin Assembly.

The La Crosse Democrat resigned her seat last month to move to the state Senate. She ousted Republican Sen. Dan Kapanke in a recall election last month.

Candidates may now begin circulating nomination papers, which will have to be filed by Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. If a primary is required, it will be Oct. 11.

The special election follows a contentious battle in the spring for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat, as well as nine Senate recall elections this summer.
