Dairy recalls products after inspection

A northern Illinois dairy is recalling all its products because of problems with its pasteurizing equipment.

Kane County Health Department officials announced Friday that Ludwig Dairy in Dixon is removing its products from store shelves. Consumers who’ve purchased Ludwig milk, cheese or other dairy products should throw them out.

No illnesses have been reported. A routine inspection by the Illinois Department of Public Health found a problem that could allow raw milk to be mixed with pasteurized milk.

Ludwig products are sold mostly in northern Illinois, but also in Indiana, New Jersey and New York. The products include a drinkable yogurt sold under the Nuestro Queso brand.

Pasteurization involves heating raw milk enough to kill illness-causing bacteria.

Ludwig is working with the state health department to correct the problem.
