Chicago man decapitated while fleeing Virginia police

YORKTOWN, Va. — Authorities say a Chicago man who quickly accelerated in an SUV with a cable around his neck decapitated himself after a domestic dispute in Yorktown.

Local media outlets said deputies with the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded to calls of a domestic disturbance Tuesday and found the man in an SUV pulling a utility trailer that was on fire. Police say the man started the blaze.

Authorities say a fire department officer noticed a cable around the man’s neck that was attached to a tree. When deputies tried to get the man to exit the SUV, he accelerated and was pulled from the vehicle and decapitated, they say. The SUV kept going for about 150 yards.

Officials aren’t releasing the man’s name, but say he was 46 and from Chicago.
