Wounded Indianapolis officer out of hospital

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis officer who was wounded by a gunshot while he was sitting in his squad car will be recovering at home after being released from the hospital.

The department said Sunday night that Officer Dustin Carmack was being allowed to go home after being shot in the hip Friday night.

Witnesses told investigators that shots were fired by a passenger in a car that pulled out of an alley as Carmack was completing reports regarding a fight in the parking lot of liquor store on the city’s west side. Other officers were nearby at the time.

Police searched citywide for the vehicle but no arrests have been made.
