Longtime Ind. county prosecutor new head of agency

INDIANAPOLIS — A man who served nearly two decades as a southern Indiana prosecutor is the new head of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council.

David N. Powell will replace the council’s former executive director Steve Johnson, who retired Aug. 1.

Powell was Greene County prosecutor from 1987 through 2006 and currently serves as a special prosecutor in several criminal cases. The council says Powell is in the process of winding up those cases and transitioning into his new job. He also will serve as executive secretary of the Association of Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Inc.

The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council is a state agency that assists local prosecutors with legal research, training, and interaction with the Legislature and various state agencies.
