Announcement set on possible Ind. schools takeover

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s state schools superintendent is set to announce whether he’ll support the first state takeover of troubled public schools.

Five high schools and a middle school in the Indianapolis Public Schools and Roosevelt High School in Gary face that possibility based on test results released this summer by the state Department of Education.

State schools superintendent Tony Bennett is scheduled to discuss what intervention measures he’ll recommend for the schools during news conferences Thursday in Gary and Indianapolis.

The State Board of Education is expected to vote on those recommendations when it meets Monday.
