Des Plaines parks appoints new assistant building supervisor

• The Des Plaines Park District appointed Kenneth Rochau to assistant building services supervisor, responsible for the daily maintenance at the Administrative and Leisure Center, Prairie Lakes Community Center, the field houses at West and Arndt parks and the Golf Center Des Plaines.
Rochau, who holds an associate degree in mechanical engineering, is a Journeyman tool and die maker. He has worked as a building engineer for The Westin Hotel in Chicago, and has electrical, HVAC, boiler, cooling tower and general building maintenance experience and expertise.
• Andrew Watson of Barrington received a Howard Nemerov Writing Scholarship from Washington University in St. Louis. Watson will be a freshman in the university's College of Arts & Sciences when the fall semester begins Aug. 30.
The scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen in the College of Arts & Sciences who demonstrate exceptional writing talent. The award is for $3,000 and is renewable for four years.
• During the annual meeting of Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children, Robert O. Kuehn of Park Ridge was appointed General Counsel for both organizations by Shriners International's president and chief executive officer Mike Severe.
As General Counsel, he will attend all director and trustee meetings, be responsible for legal matters and render legal advice to the board of directors and board of trustees of Shriners Hospitals for Children and the board of directors for Shriners International
A member of the Illinois Bar Association, Kuehn is a partner at the Barrington law firm of Williston, McGibbon, and Kuehn, and concentrates his practice in estate planning, real estate, corporations, business planning, trusts, guardianship and taxation.
• Wellness Place, a community based cancer education, counseling and support resource center in Palatine, welcomed five new members to its board of directors: Marina Davis of Palatine, president of Tandem Consulting Inc.; Deputy Chief of Police Bradley Grossman, Palatine; Dr. Ramji Rajendran of Hawthorn Woods, radiation oncologist for Chicago Area Cancer Care Radiation Oncology Consultants; Kenneth Scott of Barrington, principal of Kenneth J. Scott, CPA, Ltd.; and Dr. Michael Soble of Hawthorn Woods, internal medicine, medical oncology, North Shore Oncology-Hematology Associates.
The new board members are joined by nearly a dozen existing members. The team is collaborating to utilize their collective talents to find new, innovative ways of reaching those who are seeking comfort, hope and support during their cancer experience.
