Hanover Park police looking for armed man Thursday

Hanover Park police cordoned off part of a village street Thursday afternoon while officers from multiple law enforcement agencies investigate an undisclosed crime and seek a reportedly armed and suicidal man wanted in connection with it.

Police declined to comment on the investigation or what crime they believe had been committed. The investigation centered around a home on the 5700 block of Barr Court, but yellow police tape was also seen across the street from the property and outside a nearby church.

Late Thursday afternoon, Illinois State Police issued an alert to its officers to be on the lookout for a man in his 50s linked to the investigation. The man, according to the alert, was last seen about noon Thursday in Lockport wearing a tan baseball cap and blue hooded sweatshirt.

A neighbor, Mary Summers, said the residents of the home include a married couple and two children. Police arrived at the residence, Summers said, after the wife failed to show up at work.
