Curator named director at Art Institute of Chicago

Longtime curator Douglas Druick has been chosen as the new president and director of the Art Institute of Chicago.

The museum’s board of trustees announced Druick’s new appointments on Wednesday. Druick has been acting president and director of the museum since James Cuno left the positions in June. Druick begins immediately.

Druick has been with the Art Institute for 26 years, most recently as chair of the Department of Prints and Drawings and chair of the Department of Medieval to Modern European Painting and Sculpture.

Exhibitions to Druick’s credit include work by artists such as Degas, Van Gogh and Picasso.

Druick previously worked with the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. He calls his new position “a great privilege” and says he is “excited and eager” to begin work.
