Woodridge murder conviction upheld

A state appellate court has upheld the conviction of a former Woodridge woman serving a 40-year prison term for beating her 5-year-old daughter Evelyn to death in 2007 after the child soiled herself.

Christina Beltran, 27, had argued to the 2nd District Appellate Court that a trial judge erred by allowing jurors to hear certain statements she made during police questioning, and that prosecutors made improper comments at trial.

In a ruling released Wednesday, the appellate court rejected Beltran’s arguments and upheld her 2009 murder conviction. She remains in custody at Dwight Correctional Center, according to state records.
