Quinn: Back-and-forth with Emanuel not harmful

Gov. Pat Quinn says the back-and-forth between him and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel over gambling expansion won’t harm their working relationship.

Quinn said Tuesday he won’t allow gambling expansion in Illinois that is done in a “slipshod manner” without adequate regulation.

Emanuel has publicly encouraged Quinn to sign off on an expansion because he says Chicago needs casino revenue. Lawmakers passed a bill that besides Chicago would add four other casinos in Illinois, expand gambling at existing casino and put slots at racetracks.

Quinn has suggested Emanuel back off while he decides whether to sign or veto the bill once lawmakers send it to him. Quinn says Emanuel is jumping the gun by talking about how he would spend casino money before the fate of the bill is resolved.
