ADM closing soybean plant in Galesburg

By Associated Press

GALESBURG — Galesburg is losing an employer.

WGIL Radio reports that Decatur-based ADM issued a statement late Monday confirming that its soybean processing facility in Galesburg will be closing, effective immediately.

Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza tells WGIL that he wants to meet with ADM executives as soon as possible to discuss why they’re closing the plant and to see if there’s any way to keep it open.

The closure will cost Galesburg 31 jobs. In its statement, ADM says it intends to offer severance packages and other assistance to those losing their jobs.

ADM says it expects a number of those jobs to be transferred to a different facility.
