Aurora's Kifowit to run in 84th district

By

Aurora Alderman Stephanie Kifowit intends to run for a seat in the newly created 84th House District and will formally announce her candidacy at a reception Thursday.

She was re-elected in April to her third term as an alderman from Ward 3 on Aurora's near east side. A "significant portion" of her ward is in the new 84th district, she said.

Kifowit, a Democrat, served four years in the Marines, has a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's of public administration and has lived in Aurora 16 years. In a statement about her candidacy, Kifowit said the state legislature needs to focus on retaining and attracting businesses to provide jobs and financial stability.
