White Sox’ Quentin day-to-day with sprained shoulder

When he made a diving catch in the first inning of Saturday night’s game against the Texas Rangers, White Sox right fielder Carlos Quentin appeared to either dislocate his left shoulder or break the collarbone.

An MRI Sunday revealed a less serious injury. Quentin has a sprained AC joint in the shoulder and is listed as day to day.

Don’t expect Quentin to play until Friday at Seattle, assuming he doesn’t land on the disabled list.

“It hurts,” an uncomfortable Quentin said after Sunday’s win. “It (MRI) said it’s not broken. When I originally did it I thought something definitely broke. The MRI came back all right. A sprain of the AC joint is what we have.

“Hopefully I just pray that it gets better quick. We’re not 24 hours out yet, so I have to remind myself that it hasn’t been that long since it happened.”

Quentin is a right-handed thrower, but the left shoulder is important for hitting.

“As a hitter, it’s your front shoulder,” Quentin said. “They said, ‘At least it wasn’t your throwing shoulder,’ but as a hitter I think your front shoulder is more important.

“We’ll see. I’m having trouble stretching it out; I’m having trouble lifting it.”

If Quentin has to go on the DL, Dayan Viciedo is still waiting for a call at Class AAA Charlotte. Viciedo had a monster game Sunday, going 3-for-5 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI.

Pierzynski update:A.J. Pierzynski did some light hitting and catching Sunday as he begins to rehabilitate his fractured left wrist.Eligible to come off the disabled list Aug. 28, Pierzynski is now going to join the White Sox on their West Coast trip to Los Angeles and Seattle.Pierzynski will continue taking flips in Anaheim, Calif., and he will take batting practice in Seattle.After that, the plan is two rehab games with Class AAA Charlotte, and Pierzynski is likely to catch injured starter Phil Humber in one of the games.#147;There weren#146;t any issues or any more pain,#148; Pierzynski said of Sunday#146;s session. #147;It#146;s about where I thought it would be.#147;Until you get into a little bit heavier stuff, I hit with no problem. Until you get into an actual game situation, you don#146;t know how it#146;s going to go.#148;Dunn sits:With left-hander Derek Holland starting for Texas on Sunday, Adam Dunn was on the bench for the White Sox.Dunn has not been playing against left-handers for good reason #8212; he is 3-for-81 against them this season.#147;Nobody here thought it was going to be this bad, even him,#148; manager Ozzie Guillen said. #147;Look around at the lefties he#146;s faced here. He#146;s faced good ones, compared to the National League lefties.#147;The American League has pretty tough lefties. But in the meanwhile, no matter who they run out there, it seems like he#146;s had a lot of trouble.#148;Dunn has been hitting the ball the other way recently and actually has a four-game hitting streak (5-for-15). But he hasn#146;t hit a home run since Aug. 4.#147;I think right now his confidence is built a little bit,#148; Guillen said. #147;He#146;s starting to swing the bat a little bit better, but not the way we thought he could swing.#148;
