‘Concert for a Cure’ benefits Parkinson’s research

Submitted by Paul Ruby Foundation

The Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research will host its annual “Concert for a Cure” Saturday, Aug. 27, at Tanna Farms in Geneva. Doors open beginning at 3 p.m.

“Concert for a Cure” is one of the largest music festivals in the Fox Valley, featuring some of the best talent from around the area. Richard Milne of WXRT and Rank Entertainment are producing the concert, and Lisa Dent of America’s Country Music Station, US*99, will act as emcee.

Bands to perform include Dave Ramont & Friends; Forgotten Silence; Fresh Nuts; Gallery; Greg Boerner; HOSS; Jeremy Keen; Kid, You’ll Move Mountains; Noah Gabriel; The Kevin Trudo + Meathawk; and Empty Can Band.

There also will be a silent auction featuring items such as Disney Park Hopper Passes, a Fender acoustic guitar signed by country group Rascal Flatts, various sports memorabilia, an oval ruby pendant, a weekend at the Markham Vineyard guesthouse and many other getaway trips.

The foundation is still looking for additional items for the auction, as well as volunteers to assist in the auction area. For information, contact Ginger Irps at gliprs@comcast.net.

The Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s Research has raised more than $300,000 in the past four years and hopes to raise another $100,000 this year. The money raised by the foundation goes directly to research efforts at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders Center.

Projects receiving funding from the Paul Ruby Foundation have subsequently been recognized by National Institutes of Health and received funding from NIH, making the impact of the foundation even more meaningful.

This year’s sponsors include Cantor Fitzgerald, Pillar Rock, The Shodeen Family Foundation, Robert M. Foote, Foote, Meyers, Mielke & Flowers & Kathleen Chavez, Chavez Law Firm, Habitat Corporate Suites, State Street Jewelers, Sjodin Custom Homes, Tom & Nancy Cantwell, Kiss The Sky, and the Cerwick Family Foundation.

Tickets are limited to the first 1,500 people and are recommended to be purchased in advance. Tickets are available online at www.paulrubyfoundation.org or in person at Kiss The Sky, 301 W. State St., or Fagan’s, 524 W. State St., both in Geneva. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for those younger than 21.

This year’s concert may bring several former Chicago Bears players, who participated in a filming at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to help raise awareness about Parkinson’s and the need for research.

“I am looking forward to all of the great energy the crowd provides, as well as seeing old friends from all over coming together to support Parkinson’s research. With the addition of a second stage, and the diverse talent added this year, it is sure to be another great year at ‘Concert for a Cure,’” says Paul Ruby, founder of the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
